The main advantage of a cantilever gate is the absence of any track, which makes them an ideal choice where debris maybe an issue. They are simply suspended above the ground, but to do this they do require up to 1/3 of the length of the gate to be added to the back of the gate, to enable this to work. This can easily be hidden behind a wall or soft planting and is not necessarily a disadvantage, but if room is an issue then perhaps a tracked system may be more suitable. A large block of concrete is required to mount the rollers on to, and this in itself makes the installation quite expensive. Single leaf widths of up to 30m are possible in extreme cases making this system an ideal choice for industrial applications. Timber cantilever gates can also be constructed and can provide an ideal solution for agriculture.
